Jenny Agutter

Jenny Agutter began her performing life as a ballet dancer in the Walt Disney film Ballerina but she rose to fame in the television production and subsequently the film of The Railway Children. Since then her film credits have included The Eagle Has Landed, Equus, An American Werewolf In London and most recently Marvel’s The Avengers and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. She has been equally active in the theatre in varied roles for the RSC, Royal National Theatre and on Broadway. Other TV credits include Red Dwarf, Spooks, The Invisibles, Monday Monday and Call the Midwife. She also reads Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and Frances Hodgson Burnett’s The Secret Garden for Naxos AudioBooks.

Teresa Gallagher

Teresa Gallagher has performed in many leading roles in both plays and musicals across the country, London’s West End and Broadway. In addition, she is a well-known voice to listeners of BBC Radio Drama. Her work on film includes The Misadventures of Margaret and Mike Leigh’s Topsy Turvy. For Naxos AudioBooks she has recorded the Biography of Jane Austen and selections from The Decameron by Boccaccio. She has also read Classic Women’s Short Stories, Heidi, The Treasure Seekers, The Wouldbegoods, The Story of Jesus, and Thailand from after the quake.

Kim Hicks

Kim Hicks trained as an actor at the famous Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. She has worked in all areas of the profession but as a seventh generation theatrical has maintained the family Travelling Theatre tradition by touring her three acclaimed one-woman shows around the world: Jane Austen, Dorothy Parker and Victorian Shipboard Diaries are her subjects. Kim’s love of storytelling has now found another outlet through the world of audiobooks.

If you like Victorian novels with chapters that begin ‘Fate is a cunning hussy and builds up her plan with unconsidered trifles’, Mrs Gaskell’s last book, about the various consequences of hasty marriages, is for you. It’s unfinished, which makes you wonder how much longer and more expensive it might have been, but that’s unfair. It’s a classic.
